There are multiple cost's involved when having surgery with a private surgeon.
1. Surgeon Fees
For privately insured patients our surgeons participate in the “Known Gap Scheme”. Meaning the health fund will pay part of the surgery and there will be a gap for the patient to pay. Gaps are variable depending on your type of surgery and health fund. Some health funds do not participate in the ‘known gap scheme’ or your surgeon may opt to charge you outside of this scheme, if this is the case your surgery will be billed by the AMA Rates (Australian Medical Association). If you do not have private health but are still wishing to be treated privately, you will also be charged under the AMA rates.
2. Surgical Assistant Fees
All surgeons in this practice use an accredited surgical assistant for most procedures, these fees are variable depending on the type of surgery and for the most part are not covered by medicare or private health.
3. Anaesthetist Fees
At the time of your surgery booking you will be informed of your anaesthetist and you will need to contact them for their specific fees.
4. Hospital Fees
If you have an excess with your health fund you will be required to pay this to the hospital on the day of your admission. If you do not have private health it is upto you to contact the hosiptal to discuss costs. There may also be further fee’s that arise in hospital for medication, pathology or imaging. Hospital fees can be discussed further with the specific hospital that the procedure is taking place.
